upcoming workshopsAhimsa, described as compassion or non-violence, is part of the Yamas, one half of what is often referred to as "The Ten Commandments of Yoga."
Through discussion and writing prompts, we will explore the non-dogmatic philosophy of what it means to practice yoga off-the-mat with Ahimsa as a guide. Attendees will leave with a deeper sense of understanding of compassion as it applies to their personal life and the world around them. Have a notebook and pen. All experience levels are welcome. Note: This is not a physical asana class. The Roots of SufferingThe ancient philosophies of Yoga are the foundation to modern day Psychology.
In order to free ourselves from the tangles of the unconscious stories that cause us anguish, confusion, and fear, we will look to the kleshas –what the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali identifies as the root causes of suffering. In this workshop, we will explore deeper understanding of our own tendencies in order to liberate us from our past patterns of un conscious action-reaction. As Carl Jung wrote, "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate." And to quote Bhavana Flow papa, Darby Orr, "There's no extra points for suffering." Bring a journal and a pen. This is not an asana (physical) yoga session. This is a discussion-based workshop.
HINDSIGHT 2021
In this New Year's Eve reflective workshop we honor the year's end with a yoga practice of svadyaya, self-contemplation, in order to thoughtfully close out 2021. Hindsight offers new perspective -- pratipaksha bhavanam. Through guided writing prompts, we will take stock of the past twelve months' challenges and growth, release the year, and let go of the past in order to consciously move forward into 2022. Bring a journal and a pen. This is not an asana (physical) yoga session. We will be writing, reflecting, meditating, and connecting.
New Year New VisionWhere our "Hindsight 2021" workshop took stock on the last year in order to assess where we stand now, "New Year New Vision" looks forward to 2022. With guided writing prompts, we will clarify our future vision and envision the landscape of the coming year along the path. We will align our compasses to points on the horizon and envision guideposts along the way so that we can stay the course even while navigating inevitable challenges along the way.
Bring a journal and a pen. This is not an asana (physical) yoga session. We will be writing, reflecting, meditating, and connecting.

What is your vision - bhavana - for 2021?
In this weekend virtual retreat, you will clarify your vision for the unfolding new year, connect deeply with the underlying values that inspire you, chart a path to navigate through foreseen and unforeseen challenges, and build a community of diverse visionaries and creative spirits to support you as you move forward.
Led by Darby and Arielle. In the past, we have retreated to a beautiful estate in Southern California, but the real inspiration and growth has come from the workshops and yoga practice that we do together.
This year, we will harness the inspiration of our Create & Flow events, and bring our 5th annual yoga and creative vision weekend retreat to the comforts of your home.
We'll spend two days of soul-diving in light-spirited and deep-hearted workshops that integrate the yoga practices of asana and meditation, along with inspiration from our lives as creative artists and our studies in creativity research, the hero's journey, and The Artist's Way.
Each day will begin with the body: a yoga practice on the mat. From there we will connect the mind and spirit through meditation, writing, and small- and large-group community conversation.
Bring an open heart, a journal, and something to write with. Wear comfortable clothes.

FINDING YOUR FINANCIAL ZEN
What’s more uncomfortable on a daily basis: your hips or your finances?
This 2-hour workshop with Darby will be an informative and discussion-based exploration of how the yoga practice can help us have healthy and mindful relationships with money.
We’ll explore how the yoga practice relates to our financial happiness and we’ll discuss techniques and mindsets to find our financial flow.
As a yogi with a degree in Finance, Darby offers a unique perspective for the world of personal finance and the complications that can arise as we blend the two seemingly distant perspectives.
COMPASSIONATE COMMUNICATION
The idea behind "Namaste" -- the recognition of another's true nature -- is the greatest gift we can give or receive. Yet, often in conversation we speak at cross purposes with our intention, neither fully being heard nor fully listening to our companion.
But how does one listen? How can we communicate so that we can be heard? Are there techniques that might help in our intentions?
Attendees will have the opportunity to practice the techniques together, because as we learn from the Yoga Sutras, practice is essential for creating new patterns. Sign up on your own, or consider asking a companion to join you -- your partner, parent, or friend. Come with an open mind, leave with an open heart.
MANTRA MAKING
Meaningful mantras are a part of the yoga practice that can enhance your life both on and off the mat. Creating one for yourself that is personally meaningful helps you stay aligned with your Bhavana (vision), remain focused on your mission, and support your daily practice both on and off the mat.
But how does one choose a mantra? What makes a mantra meaningful?
Join Arielle for this 2-hour workshop focused on developing your own personal mantra to support your daily living. You will leave empowered with a meaningful mantra borne from your best intentions, passionate purpose, and personal values.
BREATH WORKSHOP
Breath is the gateway to self-awareness and good health. Conscious breathing techniques are vital for energy and stress relief, yet most of us leave our breathing in auto-pilot mode, missing a vast subtle richness of life. In yoga, breath is often referred to as Prana (life force) and yogic breathing is referred to as Pranayama – one of the eight limbs of yoga. Mindful breathing is an ancient practice AND it is now supported by modern science.
In this 2 hour workshop we will discuss the modern science of breathwork and actively explore the concepts of creating a daily breath practice. We’ll delve into various ancient Pranayama techniques and their purpose to our happiness and well-being. We’ll also explore modern breathing techniques to facilitate mental focus, better exercise performance and improved sleep.
This workshop and the breathing exercises we’ll perform are suitable for anyone interested in improving their health and expanding their mindfulness.
Whether you’re new to yoga, or a long-time yogi - or even if you have zero interest in "yoga" - you’re still breathing every minute of your life. Join us and explore the benefits from more mindful breathing.
Props required: A comfortable seat (pillow, bolster, blanket or chair), pen and paper, water, and Kleenex.
Recommendation: Breathwork is easier on an empty stomach. We recommend having a very light meal at least an hour before the workshop.
SUTRAS 1 & 2
This 10-week group-based discussion will be a deep dive into the first two books of The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
All are welcome, regardless of previous experience.
We humans are heartbreakingly mortal, and living on an organic, ever-changing planet. No wonder we often feel anguish, anger, anxiety, overwhelm, depression, and fear.
Yet, we also have incredible capacity for kindness, love, generosity, and happiness.
The ancient Yogis believed that the key to peace, love, and joy lies in the magnificent human capacity for imagination, storytelling, and thought.
The non-dogmatic philosophy that they developed so long ago has stood the test of time, because the universal human experience is timeless.
Together, we will explore the root causes of suffering, the essence of joy, and -- no small thing -- what the ancient Yogis tell us is the meaning of life.
You will leave with timeless tools and practices from Yoga wisdom to enhance your life with meaning and joy.

SUTRAS 3 & 4
In two separate 5-week workshops covering the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali Books 3 and 4, we will come together in a group-based discussion satsang to deep dive into the last two books of The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
We humans are heartbreakingly mortal, and living on an organic, ever-changing planet. Though the circumstances of life might have been very different, like us, the ancient yogis experienced anguish, anger, anxiety, overwhelm, depression, and fear.
The non-dogmatic philosophy that these wise thinkers developed so long ago has stood the test of time, because the universal human experience is timeless.
In Books 3 and 4, we continue the Niyamas, explore deeper levels of meditation, and discuss the "superpower" benefits that come from a regular discipline of yoga practices.
As with Books 1 and 2, these texts will give you timeless tools and deep insights from Yoga wisdom that will enhance your life with increased meaning and joy.
These last two books of the Sutras will be taught in two separate consecutive five-week sessions.
As with the previous Sutras workshops, each meeting includes a 90-minute presentation with discussion and prompts, and there will be a post-session half hour of continued discussion for those who wish to linger.
These two workshops are offered for those who have previously studied Books 1 & 2.
STAGE FRIGHT What's scarier: a jar of spiders or a microphone on a stage?
This 2-hour workshop with Arielle explores the mental and physiological experiences of performance anxiety and, through self-reflective prompts and supportive group discussions, how the yoga practice can help us move through and beyond the fears of public speaking, presentations, and performance.
This Zoom-based workshop is not an asana (physical) yoga session. We will be writing, reflecting, meditating, and connecting. Please bring a journal and a pen.
Arielle is a performing songwriter, storyteller, and workshop facilitator. In her workshops for conscious community and creative spirits of all kinds, she empowers others to find their voices and their own stories drawn from past experiences and future visions in order to heal and inspire their present day self.
